Other than cooking, placing songs
together in a harmonic rhythm (better known as DJing) is my second
favorite past time. I've played alongside known artists as Stacey
Pullen, Frankie Bones, Sandra Collins, Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite),
Laurent Garnier and many, many others at clubs and raves across
the country (east and west coast.) Just like cooking, I think
spinning records can be compared to as a form of art. The arrangement
and flow of how everything comes together as a final result is
amazing to me. I love listening to DJ's since each has their own
technique and preference to how and what they spin. Known for
years as "DJ Kahlua", I've been recently using my alter-ego
"CJS".
I can't say I have an all around
favorite style of music, but I've played at events where I've
featured Techno, Hard House, Trance, Drum n' Bass, Hip Hop, Rock,
Heavy Metal, Country, to just about anything else you can think
of. The best part for me is looking on from the DJ booth and seeing
people having fun and grooving to the sounds that are being put
together. It's a fascinating feeling and a heck of a rush for
me.
Other than being a Friday night
resident DJ for a year at Maloney's
(4th Avenue), I really haven't had the time to play elsewhere
since moving to Tucson! Check back for more mixes to be posted.
